Manuscripts arrive carrying history—useful distinctions mixed with imported styles, local formatting, overrides, font contamination, and assorted debris accumulated during writing and editing.
SMP™ is a human-led, staged workflow I developed over nearly three decades of working with manuscripts and long-form publications. After a manuscript is imported into Adobe InDesign, I first decode what the existing formatting is trying to communicate. Before anything is stripped away, meaningful distinctions are identified, preserved, and translated into an intentional publication system. The noise is removed; the signal is protected.
The result is not a flattened manuscript. It is a clean, structured InDesign document in which formatting has a reason for being there.
